The Story of StuffFrom its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

This powerful 20-minute documentary is 20-minute's of your time well spent.  It is REQUIRED viewing for all of our Technicians, with an intensive follow up on the role we, as service technicians, play in this deadly cycle.

We try to educate each and every customer on the affects of their decision to buy 'cheap' electronics.  Many customer call and come to the shop with their $30 DVD player asking if we can fix it.  People have good intentions, but don't have the right direction.  Had they invested in the $150 DVD player from a socially responsible and reputable company,  perhaps it would not have broken down so easily, or parts would be readily available for it, so that we can repair instead of trashing the unit.

Of course, the catch 22 to all of this, is that there aren't that many socially responsible electronic manufacturer's.  I would say that about 95% of the entire electronics manufacturer industry has it's manufacturing operations based in China or Indonesia, where environmental laws are lax, salary requirements are extremely low, and quality of life conditions at their lowest.  All of this equates to lower manufacturing costs for these companies.

So, please take 20 minutes out of your life and watch this video.  We encourage you to watch this with your family, friends, and co-workers - then ask yourself... "What Can I Do?" and DO IT.  Even if it's just sharing the knowledge and educating others.  It's a step in the right direction.
