NYC Electronics Recylce ProgramSince our company is based in Brooklyn, NY, we thought we would post information on electronics recycling programs for our area.  If your not located in the New York metro area, and want to do your part in properly recycling your electronic waste, just google the following "Electronics Recycling, Your City, Your state" - at the very least you'll find a private company which will offer a drop off locations.  In the larger metro areas, some private companies will pick up your electronics waste at no cost.

Unfortunately, NYC's waste/garbage program has been on hiatus ever since the shut down of our ONLY landfill dump in Staten Island in 2003 - since then we have been carting our waste out of state, which is extremelly expensive and contributes to green house gas emmissions, because of the amount of waste NYC produces - more trucks are needed to cart it out!

Our electronics recycling program only takes place once a year!  Rather an underkill for one of the largest cities in the U.S.!  We should have electronics recycling events held monthly at the very least, and at easier to access locations.  Currently, the only authorized electronics recycling facilities are located in the Bronx and Staten Island!

We suggest the NY Dept of Santitation (NYDOS) and the Mayors office come up with a more environmentally friendly pland to help facilitate the dumping of our electronic waste.  Perhaps a weekly dumping location, in all 5 boroughs, where citizens can bring their e-waste to a central area, and the NYDOS dump trucks can then haul it to the Bronx or Staten Island for final removal.  Of course, the question still remains... what do we do with all that waste!  Electronincs waste is extremely toxic, and recycling this stuff is much more different than recycling paper or plastic.

HERE ARE SOME OTHER THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP WITH OUR WASTEFUL NATURE.
